Citizenship and The Kingdom of God

1 Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

You are going to die. This is obvious physically. Less obvious is spiritual death, which is a separation from God for eternity.

There are only two kingdoms to belong too. That of God and that of Satan. Whose King you serve when you die (Jesus or Satan) is the king you will be with, in eternity. So it is important to be a citizen of the Kingdom of God so you go to heaven when you die and not hell.

The Father, in heaven, seeks for people who will want to be a citizen of The Kingdom of God and in this is the beginnings of our finding our true identity as a person.

People try and find their identity, who they are as a person. A citizen of The Kingdom has an identity and it is found in Jesus and His requirements of them and as they explore this more and more through learning of Jesus and His requirements and obeying them, they will discover who they are as God sees them and desires them to know and not as the world tries to tell them they are.

The natural expression of a Citizen of The Kingdom of God is found in them doing the Will of God. Four Scripture verses summarize their lifestyle. These verses are:

Objectives

Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Attitude

Gal 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Purpose

Mat 28:19-20  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world

Authority of

Mar 16:17-18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

A citizen of The Kingdom of God should be on voyage of continual discovery of who they are as they explore the relationship they have with Jesus and The Kingdom of God, developing the various roles they have in The Kingdom: friend of the King, adopted brother/sister of the King. Servant, ambassador, soldier and citizen.

Entrance to The Kingdom of God

To become a citizen of a Kingdom you must desire to follow The King, meet the requirements to be a citizen, believe what He says and do what He tells you to do.

We are told to “believe on the LORD Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” In other words Salvation requires you to voluntarily: accept Jesus as your King (Lord) believing He is God, accept what He teaches and has done as well as do what He requires you to do. This means you need to know The King’s Commands and Laws (The Bible) and how to hear His Will for you (guided by The Holy Spirit).

Galatians 3:26 for you are all Sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are Sons of God.

Salvation is a voluntary relationship with Jesus and The Father (John 17:3) as guided by The Holy Spirit, and it is a relationship of obedience and Love (John 14:15). Our entrance to The Kingdom is an act of Love by God and this should set the tone for our relationship with Him.

He adopts you as His child with all the right, roles, rewards and responsibilities a child of His has.

Only those led by The Holy Spirit call Jesus Lord and serve Him out of Love and thankfulness seeking to do the Will of The Father as Jesus did. As they are led by The Holy Spirit they grow in His things and He can train them in the things of God maturing them into the image of Jesus so that they are equipped to serve Jesus as good citizens of His Kingdom now, in eternity and beyond.

A New Creation

Titus 3:5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Why are you a new creation when you follow Jesus voluntarily as Lord of your life? The body and soul has not changed. Your spirit though is transformed and The Holy Spirit’s presence now is in it and you have new purposes and values. The Soul and heart may need to be transformed through deliverance and discipline of self and this is part of working out your salvation.

It is as we realise that out spirit has been transformed that we will work on our soul, heart and flesh to bring them into line with the new attitudes and purposes of The Holy Spirit presence is who is now in your spirit.

We are transformed as we renew our mind to think as God desires it to and by the transformation of the soul and heart to that Jesus desires it to be. While we are given a new heart the attitudes of the old one which are still in us must be dealt with through deliverance and self-control.

Ez 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

How is the relationship expressed?

The way in which we express our relationship with Jesus results from our attitude towards Him and our appreciation of whom He is. Our purpose in life is to love Him and out of this love serve Him and by this worship and bring Him Glory through the way we live and obey Him. This is not optional if you want to be a citizen of His Kingdom. He directs us to how to serve Him, when to serve Him, and where to serve Him. It is not the act of robots, but of people who know this is best for them and who are grateful to their King for what He has done for them and as a result, love Him and willingly serve Him for this, even if it costs them their life.

As you do each day what He asks you to do and as you listen to The Holy Spirit to guide you in the way you are to use the gifts, abilities and strength He gives you, you will walk in the plan He has for you made from before creation and all will fall into place. You will get the blessings He has for you. You will get the growth, promotion, relationship and intimacy as well as the ministry He desires you to have along with all else He has for you which include the trials you will go through to be matured to His image (Mat 6:33. Rom 9:23, Eph 2:10).

On this path is also the preparation He has for you that will prepare the attitudes and habits you need to have for you to live now and then in heaven with Him forever.

Jesus gave us a commandment (Jn. 13:34-35, to love all in the way He does, which is the basis of all the other commands He gave us) and as you walk your individual path of Eph 2;10 you will learn how to fulfil it. He said to Love as He loves and as this is the basis for all relationships. This path He has prepared for you to walk in is designed to teach you the obedience necessary to put His quality love into practice in your life in preparation for a lifestyle of love now and in eternity with Him.

As you obediently follow the path He has prepared for you to walk in, prepared by God for you from before creation (Eph 2:10) you worship Him through giving yourself to Him as a living sacrifice (Rom. 12:1-3) as you seek Him, His will and His way of doing things in all you do (Col 3:1-3 ). You are a living sacrifice as you sacrifice your will (self and purposes) for His. This attitude is out of love and gratitude for Him because of all He has done for you.

Sometimes our path is clouded by prophetic promises. This is because we put faith in the promises and not the promise giver. The seeking of Jesus and His Will is more important than any prophecy we are given so we need to leave the fulfilling of these prophecies to Him and continue in the walk of Mat 6:33 trusting in His Love for us, that whatever happens is for our best regardless of whether these prophecies come true or not.

As we wait on Jesus To serve Him, all He has prepared for us will occur and our life becomes a continual worship to Him. An act of Love to Him. (He said if you love me keep my commandments and our attitude of obedient worship shows our love to Him).

Our life then becomes a continual ministry to Him expressed toward others on His behalf, A ministry to Him done as a result of Love for what He has done for us expressed to others out of Love for Him and His purposes:

Ministry (service to others) must be done out of love for Him and the person being ministered to:

Ministry not of Love is not of God
Ministry not of Love sidetracks His Plans
Ministry not of Love promotes Satan’s plans
Ministry not of Love hinders the growth of others and can destroy them
Ministry not of Love hinders the growth of the person ministering
Ministry not of love does not bring Honour and Glory to God
Ministry not of love brings honour and glory only to the minister
Ministry not of love shows a need for deliverance of the minister
Ministry not of love will not be done in the Character of God.
Ministry not of love will not be acceptable to God!

God can still use incorrect ministry (for the benefit of the person being ministered too) but not as effectively (Romans 8:28 still holds true here).

Democracy hides The Kingdom

Democracy as a way of ruling is not in the Bible. Satan did a master stroke in promoting democracy. People have forgotten what it means to have a king and as a result how to relate to God as our King. So, we treat God as if we are in a democracy with Him and not as a subject in His Kingdom. The true appreciation of Lordship is not taught as it conflicts with the satisfaction we get in having our say in a democracy. So, we have little concept of what it means to be a citizen of a kingdom or to have a king or lord over us.

Remember that we are guests of God.

We are born into the kingdom which is why babies and those to young to know right from wrong goes there when they die.  They have defiled themselves through sin as they do not know what it is. But one day we do know the difference and we choose to reject Jesus as King and choose the evil Satan has placed before us (choosing to belong to his kingdom and not that of Jesus).

We then do not have a right to be a citizen of The Kingdom. The Father invites us to join when we voluntarily accept Jesus as Lord (King) and Saviour and love Him and desire to serve Him.

Unless you have on your heart what The Father has on His heart (all His unsaved people on earth and their obtaining a salvation relationship to Him), you cannot be a true citizen of The Kingdom of God as your heart will have in it things that are not of The Kingdom. The Christian life is the removing of these things from our heart and attitudes so that we become more like Jesus in all we do

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit and The Kingdom of God

The gifts of The Holy Spirit are used to promote The Kingdom of God and His purposes, either through helping the people of The Kingdom or helping them take territory (people) from The kingdom of Satan.

We do not need to ask for the gifts we need to serve Jesus as these are given to us when God anoints us (authorizes us) to Minister in a certain area of The Kingdom.

When He says we are to desire the gifts it cannot be for our own selfish desires but for the purposes of The Kingdom. As we desire to do the work of The Kingdom He will give us opportunity as well as any gifts we need to do His work. So do not desire the gifts but the ministry to use them in and they will be given to you when you are authorized to do that ministry.

Beside we are told to desire Jesus and the furtherance of His Kingdom as our primary objectives in life (Mat 6:33) and He will give us all we need to serve Him without the need to ask Him for them.

What gifts should we desire for daily living?

The Holy Spirit leads us in daily living and talks to us personally so all we need is someone else to help us understand what He tells us when we do not understand what He says to us.

To me, Words of knowledge and words of wisdom are more important (Wisdom = applied knowledge) than prophecy for daily living. They tell you what you need to know to live the Christian life where you are in it at that moment or what you need to know or say to help someone live the Christian life or help them understand why they need Jesus.

Prophecy has its place but usually is of little use in the daily living of the Christian life or counselling ministries.

Seek to hear the Holy Spirit more clearly in your Christian life and in all you do to hear His words of guidance, knowledge and wisdom for your own guidance and the guidance of any ministry He gives you to perform for Him toward others!

Roles in The Kingdom of God

The King

The King’s primary purpose is to preserve His Kingdom (his area of influence, power and authority) and seek the welfare of His citizens. To this end, He makes laws and plans that His citizens should obey.

The wise king makes laws and plans that will benefit not only Himself but His Citizens as well.

The will of The King is the will of His citizens, over whom He has power of life and death. When The King summons them, they drop everything and obey Him. Otherwise, they continue with their daily lives living in accordance with His rules and guidelines. They rarely see their King or appear before Him.

The Citizens

They obey The King and represent The King and are His ambassadors, soldiers and servants.

The Work of a Citizen of The Kingdom

A citizen of a kingdom has five duties only and these take precedent over their own needs:

To serve The King as required by him through complete obedience to Him.

To represent The King to persons both in and out of The Kingdom either in an official capacity or just by virtue of being a citizen of The Kingdom.

To fight and protect what The King owns and desires.

To be a good steward of what God has trusted Him with.

To relate to the King and other citizens in an appropriate manner.

You cannot do these things if you do not know what The King requires you to do and you cannot tell others about Him if you do not know what to say about Him, what He has done for them and His requirements of them and you cannot fight or defend The King’s property if you do not know what it is or how to defend it.

The other comment is that The Kingdom of Heaven is not physically on earth so all the things belonging to it are spiritual but expressed at times in our physical world.

The chief property of The Kingdom on earth is its Citizens.

How does a Christian represent The Kingdom?

Jesus gave the following commands to His disciples. If they do not apply to us it leads to the ridiculous scenario that we do not have to tell people about Jesus and all that He did was limited to his own generation. It also means we are at the mercy of demons and cannot heal or be used to show God power! This makes Christianity a very dull religion indeed instead of a vital, exciting way of living.

The things that follow are what Christians should be doing. It was commanded of all His followers, not just the Apostles. The verses are as follows:

“Mat 28:19-20 (AV) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: {teach…: or, make disciples, or, Christians of all nations} Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 16:15-18 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Luke 22.19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. (Note this meal was to be remembered not a ritual based on a cup of wine and some bread)

Luke 24:46-47 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Jn15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. {power…: or, the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you}”

A summary as follows:

They will go to all Nations and witness to a risen Jesus

They will preach repentance and remission of sins in Jesus Name

They will baptize them in the Name of the Trinity

They will teach them what Jesus requires of them

They will love others as Jesus loves them

They will fellowship together and remember what Jesus has done for them when they eat together.

They will show the following signs promised by Jesus through those who believe in Him and have His delegated authority:

They shall cast out demons (free people from the bondages of The Kingdom of Satan).

They shall speak in new tongues

They shall capture serpents and scorpions (demons)

Poisons will not hurt them when their enemies give these to them

They shall heal the sick

The will teach what Salvation is and demonstrate it in their life

These are the marks that should be a part of the Christian life. Any Christian not doing them or not trying to do them when asked to by Jesus is not following Jesus and what He commanded (unless they are learning how to or teaching them how too or resting from the battle). Jesus went around doing Godly works and preaching, teaching and demonstrating the Gospel of The Kingdom (Mat 4:23) and any group (church/denomination or similar) not doing this is not doing what Jesus commanded or demonstrating the Gospel of The Kingdom (Mat 4:23-24).

Remember that Jesus does not recognize churches, denominations or similar. He only recognizes the body (of his followers) and assemblies of people in The Body. If a person, or a church or denomination is not promoting the ministry of The Kingdom and training its members to do it, even if only by its inactivity, it is opposing God unless it has a good reason for doing so.

Furthermore, the citizens of The Kingdom use what they ‘own’ to meet their needs, but really, everything they ‘own’ is on loan from The King and He can recall any or all at any time which means they no longer have it to use for their own purpose. They are stewards on behalf of The King in respect to His Name (Delegated Authority), His Holiness, His Teachings, His character and His Possessions given to them to protect and maintain and His Love. This is why the emphasis of the New Testament on Stewardship because by the way you carried out your Stewardship of all God gave you: speech, mind, body, salvation, spiritual gifts, His Law of Love, possessions, people (such as family or t hoer you mentor) etc., you will be judged.

When war is declared, they are called to serve The King and country or suffer the consequences of not doing so. (As Christians live in enemy territory they are always in a state or readiness to battle and are in constant communication with their King to know when to battle or just maintain what He has given them to be stewards of). The King trains them for war, using some of His battle experienced servants to do this. He pays His citizens a wage (reward) for serving in His army. There are also other rewards for serving Him well in other areas of service.

The citizen has two objectives - securing the welfare of The King and His Kingdom and securing the welfare of his own family. Pleasing The King has priority over pleasing his own family. Ignoring The King could prove fatal to his life. The advice of His Councillor (The Holy Spirit) should also be obeyed as ignoring His advice could also prove fatal.

He knowingly serves the purpose of the King as he knows in doing this his family needs will be met by the King. So he trusts the King to maintain him and his family as he does the work of the kingdom.

The King’s laws and manual for battle are to be followed (The Bible). You do not follow these laws at your own peril as you risk the anger and judgment of The King.

The Kings uses His subjects to build His kingdom according to His plan for it. This means they must know their part in His plan or at least what He desires them to do to fit in with His plan. For this we look to:

His laws and guidance in The Bible

The Holy Spirit as we listen to Him in our daily walk with Him,

The Guiding Gifts of The Holy Spirit and

Spirit-inspired prophecy (as interpreted to us by The Holy Spirit).

How God has worked in similar situations in the past.

Jesus builds His Church and only as each part of the Body fulfils its function is it built in accordance with His plans. Anyone trying to build the Church without the guidance of The Holy Spirit is probably hindering the work of Jesus.

People talk about the Church as if it’s a group of people or a building. That is incorrect. The Church is The Kingdom of God on Earth unified and guided by The Holy Spirit. People should be talking about The Kingdom and its unity amongst Christians rather than about churches, which are divided into denominations, factions and separatist groups, all of which divide the Body and The Kingdom.

By definition, denominational rules or guidelines are an addition to the Bible or an emphasis to just parts of it, and thus, modify it in some way, even if just by removing the guidance of The Holy Spirit through denominational charters, rules for meetings and elections or appointments. Denominational rules or other guidelines of men always breed legalism, lovelessness, expediency, and hierarchy with its problems of pride, status and wrong objectives.

Denominations divide the Kingdom and Jesus said divisions in a kingdom will cause its fall and bring its end so divisions in the church have caused many churches to be irrelevant to most people now and of little use for spreading The Kingdom of God.

Math 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

The church is The Indivisible Kingdom of God on Earth and has only one Ruler - Jesus (1 Pet 2:25). He appoints mature people to guide it, but He alone is the Authority over it. As citizens of His Kingdom, we represent Him and His Kingdom, and we are the only representatives people will see who portray The Kingdom. When churches do not have the power of The Kingdom, they are merely social clubs and become irrelevant, having the form of Godliness but not the power or authority. Any church not demonstrating The Kingdom of God falls into this category. They do not display Jesus by their life or activities and may hinder His Work.

1Co 2:4-5  And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:   That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

It is only as you demonstrate the kingdom by your works and attitudes that you demonstrate the kingdom by your life.  The early church did this and expanded rapidly.  The modern church focuses on knowledge and not the demonstration of The Kingdom authority and is dying.

People came to see Jesus.  Not because of what He preached but because of the miracles He did and then they listened to Him because they saw God was with Him and He was telling them what god wanted them to know.

If you are not preaching, teaching or demonstrating The Gospel of The Kingdom without any valid reason for not doing so, you are as those who have the appearance of Godliness (God’s representative) but are denying the Power of God and possibly are not even saved. A lack of knowledge as to how to do this is a valid reason as there are few people who teach us how to live as a citizens of The Kingdom of God. This does not take away from the responsibility you have to learn how to do this.

If you really desire to do the work of Jesus He will teach you and being people to help you (Jn 7:17 and 16:13).

The early Church demonstrated The Kingdom of God in their lives, and The Kingdom grew dramatically. Most of the modern western church do not do this and are dying or are becoming compromised with worldly religious practices in order to survive. The Kingdom is in us and must shown in our life. If it is not shown in our life, then you had better find out why. The worst possible scenario is that you are not a member of The Kingdom, and so, not saved. If you are not being used by God to deliver people, heal them or defend The Kingdom and this is not out of ignorance (as many are not taught this by churches), then I suggest you examine your salvation carefully.

Serving Jesus, The King

We serve Him and represent Him alone and are used to show His Glory and Majesty. We do not serve any other, whether they be: minister, elder, denominational authority etc. The moment we serve anyone else but Jesus, except as His direction, we are no longer serving The Kingdom and may not even belong to it. Any time we try to show off our own glory and majesty we also no longer represent Him or serve Him.

We serve Jesus and should ask him what He desires us to do. Then, as directed by Jesus we will be sent to serve others.

Unto Jesus

Matt 25:45 “He answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.”

Jesus is ruler of everything so whatever you do affects The Kingdom of God in some way, either to advance it or reduce its influence. In this it also affects Jesus directly as He is it’s King. It is even more so where moral values are concerned, such as His Love expressed through us, or obedience to Him is involved.

If it is done ‘unto Jesus’ it will be His Will that is being done, for His purposes, in His timing, in His chosen place, using His chosen method and using the things He has provided for you to do the act of obedience to Him.

To be living in obedience, everything you do will be done ‘unto Him’ or it will be done for the possible benefit of Satan. If it is not done ‘unto Him’ while it may serve His Will in some way it may also assist His enemy.

Paul state this two ways in Colossians:

Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Col 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

As followers of Jesus all we do should be done in His Will and Authority and done ‘unto Him’ and not to please man. Our focus should be Jesus and His Will as it is Him we serve and as He directs us, to serve others. He is also our judge and rewarder so what we do now will affect our eternal state.

So as you walk in your life, remember whatever you do affects The Kingdom of God and thus Jesus in some way.

Jesus never asks us to do more than we can do (1 Cor 10:13)

Jesus is pure Love and will never ask you to do for Him more than you can handle. He will prepare you for the service and help you with it in any way He can, and will support you through it and use the event to train and mature you. Satan will try and convince you that you cannot do it, or that Jesus has forgotten about you or that you are inadequate for the task. Satan’s objective is to stop you doing what God desires you to do and will do anything to achieve this aim of his.

Stay focused on the Love of your King and ignore the lies of his enemy and you will succeed in whatever your King asks you to do.

How did Jesus Live

He taught the principles God required for living as a citizen of His Kingdom to all who would listen (discipling) as well as those who did not know them (evangelism) and warned those that knew them who did not obey them.

He demonstrated the authority, power and character of a citizen of The Kingdom of God.

He gave His life for the purposes of God and The Kingdom of God.

He lived a life led by its guide (The Holy Ghost) bringing honour to His Father and furthering the purposes of The Father’s Kingdom.

He lived a life of Love, showing the Character of The Father (Love) and the attitudes a follower of The Father should have.

He defended His Father’s Name and Laws.

He sought His Father’s Will in all areas.

This is how we should live as a follower of Jesus!

Holiness and The Kingdom

The Kingdom is undefiled and so we have the following command:

Be ye holy; for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: (1 Cor 1:30)

Holiness is our response to Salvation It is separation from all aspects of the enemy kingdom and the embracing of all matters relating to The Kingdom of God and our King, Jesus. It is an attitude of being wholly (holy) for Jesus and His Kingdom.

All are redeemed (Jesus paid the penalty for the sins of everyone) – Jesus died for all but only those that call Him Lord and obey Him voluntarily are saved and redeemed. They are in a righteous (correct) relationship through believing in who He is and accepting what Jesus offers them. As a result of this relationship He sanctifies them (sets them apart for His purposes).

These ‘sanctified’ people then pursue Holiness, setting themselves apart for Jesus and His purposes as a response to what He has done for them.

It is for the sake of this holiness and the work God desires to do in them that they work at the salvation they now have. They do not work to obtain salvation but to preserve it through obedience to their King.  Continual disobedience to The King can lose you your salvation (Rev 3:5).

Holiness is a response of gratitude and thankfulness to God for what He has done for them, without which we cannot see or serve God as we really should.

One of the definitions of Holiness is as follows:

“Hallowed; consecrated or set apart to a sacred use, or to the service or worship of God; a sense frequent in Scripture; as the holy Sabbath; holy oil; holy vessels; a holy nation; the holy temple; a holy priesthood.”

There are only two kingdoms, of which the kingdom of Satan is the only one on earth.  No physically man-made structures or organizations exist in the spiritual realm. Denominations, associations, home churches, etc. do not exist in the spiritual. You belong to one kingdom or the other. The Kingdom to which you separate yourself too is the one whose purposes you accept and whose purposes you serve. It is the one you to which you are “holy”. You cannot be in both kingdoms at the same time- there are no fence sitters in the spiritual realm.

Jesus said in Matthew 6: 24: No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Mammon is a demon and offers you the riches the world offers. It is not necessarily money. It can be emotional, spiritual, mental or physical. It is the things Satan offers you to try and snare you so that you will be a citizen of his kingdom. You cannot desire his things and also desire the things of God. It has to be one or the other as both are different as they have different purposes and requirements to belong to them. What Satan offers may look similar in their physical to that which God offers but in the spiritual the consequences are totally different. The things of Mammon satisfy the flesh while the things of God satisfy our spirit in us.

To desire the things of Mammon over the things of God mean you either need deliverance or you seek pleasure for pleasure’s sake.

You will either serve Jesus or, reject Him, or by default, through indifference to what God requires of you, serve His enemy, the devil. Holiness is not just separating yourself for the purposes of Jesus, but also for the expansion of His Kingdom, which is really what the Great Commission is about.

Remember it is not property or treasure that expands The Kingdom of God or Satan, but souls. They are the true wealth of each kingdom.

The mark of one who desires to expand the rule of His King is that he works with what His King has given him, in The King’s timing, in The Kings ordained place, in The King’s required way.

Jesus has given us His delegated authority to cast out the enemy and heal people of the ravages of the enemy. He has also given His Holy Spirit to guide us and empower us in serving Jesus along with His gifts to use in fighting His enemy. If you are not using these helps to ministry perhaps you are not doing what God requires of you. If these are not part of your life then you will have difficulty in doing what God requires of you.

It is the casting out of demons, the destroying of the works of the devil, healing and use of the gifts that set the early Christian Church apart from other religious organizations and cults that were around them and which will set the Christian apart from the world around them today. It is the demonstration of the Love of Jesus through the use of these gifts that draws a person to Jesus.

Jesus said we would do greater works (in quantity) than Him, so we should be seeing these in our lives. Only as we are Wholly (holy) set upon His purposes and plans given to us by our Lord and Master can we demonstrate The Kingdom of God through our life and practice.

Holiness and Protection

When we are in The Kingdom of God, living completely as a citizen of The Kingdom should, we are in a state of holiness and worship. Satan can find nothing in us to accuse us of sin and has no right to attack us. This is our protection in everyday living and ministry which is why holiness and worship are such a part of the Christian life. It is this relational position to Jesus that protects us.

Without holiness we are not protected from the rulership of Satan. Holiness is an act of Lordship and if Jesus is not Lord of any area of our life it is no longer holy to Him and we are vulnerable to Satan in that area. He will attack us but if Jesus is Lord and we are holy to Him in that area there is nothing in us of Satan’s kingdom for him to attack so he has to make something in us to use, in other words deceive us to accept his lies so we will sin and be vulnerable to his attacks. The attitude of holiness helps remove the things Satan seeks to use to attack us because of the requirements to be holy making the removal of these things necessary.

Without holiness we cannot really serve Jesus as we should. It is because we love Him and understand who He is (Lord of all) and what He has done for us, that we worship Him of which holiness is a part. The problem is not just to try and serve Him but to serve Him as He desires us to. Lordship and holiness helps us in this.

Worship is a result of our lifestyle objective of seeking to obey and serve Jesus out of our love for and gratitude to Him.

Holiness in Summary

The concept behind holiness is that of being separated for a spiritual purpose. In this case the purpose is the service of God.

Holiness is a voluntary choice and is not forced on us by God.

Holiness is an attitude of a person that desires God’s Purposes and Plans above their own because they Love God and they realise that these are better for them than anything they can think of themselves. This desire is also an act of worship.

We are told to be holy (separate ourselves from the manners, desires, plans and purposes of Satan’s world system) not because it a legalistic requirement but because we cannot serve God as we should while the attitudes of Satan’s world system are within us or being followed by us.

There is a simple principle - whose rules you follow dictates where you end up in eternity. If you follow the way of holiness you end up in heaven. If you follow the way of Satan, ungodliness, you end up in hell. This is why God says to be holy as He is Holy - it is for our sakes and not His.

Holiness is an integral part of the Christian walk. Develop it if you would be used by Jesus and also be with Jesus after you die.

In summary How does holiness fit into the scheme of things

Jesus died for all so the price of our redemption has been paid. We need to accept what He has done and follow Him as our Lord (King) to assimilate this redemption. He then becomes our saviour, declares we are righteous (in a proper relationship with Him) then sanctifies us (sets as apart for His purposes). Our response is holiness, setting asides our things to do His purposes. As we do this it also becomes an act of worship of Him so that our life becomes a continual act of worship.

Worship by life.

As you seek to be holy in all you do your altitude is one of unwavering obedience to the Lordship of Jesus. This is an act of worship as by this altitude you area declaring He is worthy to be obeyed.

Accordingly, a life of holiness is a life of continual worship to Jesus and by this is also a life that brings continual Glory to God by demonstrating He is to be praised and worshipped because of who He is and because of the works He has done, is doing and will do.

What attitudes should we have as a citizen of The Kingdom of God?

When referring to the qualities of the attitudes/virtues we have in heaven versus those we have on earth, it is a matter of degree, not difference. This, then makes earth the training place for these attitudes to be learned and developed. They are furthered in heaven in regard to their degree of purity and intensity but the process is begun on earth. When in heaven we will no longer need faith, hope or the knowledge of how to defeat Satan, but we will always need Love and the way it is expressed (1 Cor 13:13). Hence, the emphasis of Jesus on Love.

So in summary, what attitude do we need as a Citizen of The Kingdom?

Jn:34 – 35 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Jn 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

How do you know you have eternal life and are a citizen of The Kingdom of God?

In the manner you love people and the way you keep His commandments and show God’s quality of Love is shown that you are a citizen of The Kingdom of God.

1 Jn 5:1-5 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Faith in who Jesus is and what He has done as well as obedience to He has taught is the basis for your salvation and for your victory over Satan. These attitudes are carried out of love for God and not compulsion. Showing love to God and your fellow citizens is a result of your gratitude too, obedience of and faith in Jesus. If you do not believe Jesus is who He is you will not have faith in Him and what He has done for you and you will not love others as He has commanded you too.

There are no bitter people, gossips, critical judgmental people or loveless people in The Kingdom of God. You may lose their salvation because of the unrepented disobedience and unforgiveness associated with these failings.

While these wrong attitudes are maintained you cannot be a citizen of The Kingdom of God as you do not love Jesus or His people or you would deal with these attitudes. These attitudes are all a result of unforgiveness of some sort or pride, both of which have no place in The Kingdom of God and which, if not dealt with, will lose you the salvation Jesus offers you.

Jesus offers salvation to you which is why He can remove it. It is not something you control to stop Him removing. So if you have unforgiveness or other wrong attitudes to other Citizens of The Kingdom then get deliverance and repent of them before you lose your salvation.

A warning about relationships

The Bible is a book of relationships - how people interact with God, each other and Satan. This principle of relating correctly is so important that salvation and eternal life are the result of a relationship (Jn 17:3). There is even an order in these interactions that must be obeyed for life to be as God desires it to be:

Relationship to God

Relationship to your family

Relationship to people where you work

Relationship to people you minister too.

We are given guidelines on how to relate that can be summarized as follows:

You are to love God wholeheartedly and to love others as God love you. Then you will have the conscience void of offence to all and avoid the two problems of unforgiveness or unresolved offence against another that prevent ministry being acceptable to God.

You cannot do anything worthwhile that God can accept if a person has an offence against you and you have not tried to reconcile to that person. God was in Christ reconciling the world (people in it) to Himself so we have the same responsibility to reconcile to others. The requirement is to try, not necessarily to succeed as the other person may not accept reconciliation. Until you try and reconcile, you cannot give your gift (ministry) to God. It just stands before the altar being unacceptable (Mat 5:23,24).

You must forgive others as has God forgiven you at Calvary otherwise He cannot forgive you your sins and you do not go to heaven (Mat 6:14,15). Salvation is by faith and obedience to Jesus. He requires you to forgive others as He forgives you. Not to do this is disobedience and hypocrisy and The Bible says a hypocrite will not come before God (Job 13:16) and if you do not come before God you are not saved. Remember, if you knowingly do not forgive you lose your salvation.

God requires you to try and you may have to ask him to help you to forgive. You may want to forgive but hurts stop you in which case deliverance is necessary before you can forgive.

The other wrong attitude that can lose you your salvation is unrepented disobedience (Rev 3:5)

God desires people to wholeheartedly try and Love as He does and who will minister in His quality of love. While you have offended others and do nothing about it you are not showing love to them. While you have unforgiveness in your heart to another you are not loving them, you are a hypocrite and you cannot come before God or be used by God.

Until you love as God loves them, or at least try too He cannot and will not use you as He desires too and may not be able to accept what you give Him and you may even be going to hell. God honours our efforts to do His Will, even when we fail, as our heart is in a right attitude towards Him. He cannot and will not accept us when our heart is hardened not to do His will as we are rejecting His Lordship and The Kingdom and the salvation that comes with it.

God is Love. We are His followers. We should Love as He Loves.

Self esteem, self-worth, self-value and criticism

These should come from what God thinks of you as a citizen of his Kingdom and not from what the world considers to be of value, worth or esteem, as things of the world are determined by Satan and are usually contrary to the things of God or have been corrupted to lead you astray form The Word ( truths) of God.

Satan also uses people to criticize you who them self have low self esteem and need to make you feel worse than they do so they have self esteem and worth through their wrong opinion of you through seeing you as being inferior in their own eyes.

You have value, worth and esteem because of your relationship with God because God considers you have value which is why He desires to relate to you! As long as you wholeheartedly try and do the Will of God then no one can condemn you as God alone is your judge. As long as you try and live as God desires you to live no one has the right to criticize you as you are living according to God’s standards and not those Satan has thrust on the world.  You also do not have the right to criticise others.  God alone is the  judge of everyone.  We only have the right to evaluate someone so we can help them or deal with any problems they may create for us.

All you can really do is say to a person “Jesus says in the Bible this and you are not doing it”, then follow the guidelines in The Bible for dealing with unrepented sin if they will not repent.

When you are doing the work of God it is not you they criticise or condemn but God whose Will you are doing.

Never let the emotional problems or weaknesses of another be transferred to you as Satan will try to do that. Help people but do not accept their criticism without first evaluating the truth of it and reject any guilt they try and place on you. If the criticism is correct then you have a learning process and a need for deliverance. If it is not then they need deliverance. Not knowing something or making mistakes does not make you inferior but wiser if dealt with correctly.

It is natural for Satan to use others to try and reduce your self-worth, self-esteem and self-value as then you will be negative in your attitude to your abilities and not serve Jesus as you desire to because you do not believe you can. So do not fall for this trap. Jesus loves you as you are and not as you think you should be and will use you as He makes and prepares you to be and not as you think you should be.

How to handle negative remarks about yourself and Criticism

If a person criticizes you or attacks you verbally you must remember not to react. Satan desires you to react so he can use any thought patterns or behaviour he has convinced you to accept and thus cause further problems with you self-image and self-esteem and you image of what you are as a citizen of The Kingdom of God.

So you listen impartially to what they say and evaluate it (if necessary with the help of the Holy Spirit). It they are correct in what they say about you then you must change. If they are not correct then they have emotional hurts that cause them to make others look more worse than they are so that they feel better about them self. They may even need your ministry to free them.

Never become angry, react, argue, assume things or use man’s reasoning to deal with things. Satan can use these for his purposes. You should always ask The Holy Spirit what to do unless it is something the law of the land requires or you are trained to deal with, for example, such as a medical emergency if your an ambulance person.

People who try and control you are emotionally damaged and need deliverance so do not accept their control as control is a form of witchcraft.

If you come across anyone who is damaged and trying to abuse or control you then they need deliverance and understanding, not aggression or reaction to them. They have had enough abuse in the past without you attacking them more as you defend your own inadequacies. If you find yourself reacting then you also need deliverance as you are protecting your own inadequacies by attacking them or defending yourself.

You must learn to love the person as Jesus does but not accept their sin or criticizes them for the weakness that causes them to sin.

This is how Jesus dealt with His opponents. They tortured Him, spat on Him, whipped Him then killed Him but He still loved them, forgave them and died for them.

A citizen of the kingdom of God needs a proper evaluation of who they are in Jesus so that their self-esteem is correctly evaluated and Satan cannot attack them through this area.

How to deal with attacks on The Kingdom

When you are doing the work of The Kingdom of God and someone rejects you and attacks you in any way (usually slander or character assassination) then remember it is Jesus and not you they are really attacking as you are His representative telling them what He desires them to know.

Jesus has thought you were sufficiently adequate to do the task which is why He has chosen you to do it. So they have no right to criticize you as being inadequate in any way.

You give the situation to Him to deal with (use the five steps) as He is the one really offended and get on with ministry . This is why He said “Vengeance is mine ! I will repay!”

To take matters into your own hand is to usurp the authority of Jesus to determine the punishment of a person or how they are to be dealt with, so just walk away, commit the situation to Him and get on with life. You may need to do some spiritual warfare over a situation to stop further workings of Satan but The Holy Spirit will show you what to command (in Jesus’ Name) if this is necessary.

Remember, we are to stand up for Jesus and His things even if it costs us our life.

Heavenly Attitudes

We are being prepared to live in The Kingdom of heaven which is why we are told to develop certain attitudes on earth. Satan makes it hard by placing around us things that make us want to have attitudes opposite to those God desires us to have.

So What attitudes does God want us to have:

God’s quality of Love

His Servant heart

A desire to obey God and God–given authority

Trust in God

Holiness to God

So how should this affect out lifestyle:

We should reject the things the world offers that are opposite to The King’s values

We should pursue His attitudes in all we do to prepare for heaven as well as serve Him on earth

We will get to know our King as best we can so we can relate better to Him now and in Heaven and beyond

We will trust The King that it is worth living the way He desires you too (rewards Heb 11:6))

We will work with the resources The King give us and not those of His enemy

We will study The King’s guidelines and listen to His advisor (Holy Spirit)

We will tell others about what our wonderful King offers to all

We will put all His purposes before ours!

In other words, in everything we do our focus should be on God’s Will and how He desires us to deal with the matter.

Jesus said:

Mat 6:30-34

30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33 But seek ye first The Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

There are various principles these verses:

v30 God cares for inanimate things how much more will he take care of His Children

v31 So we should not worry about our provision for this life

v32 People who do not know God seek for these things as they do not realise God will provide it to those who seek Him and His Kingdom (His Purposes)

v33 As you seek God’s Kingdom (His will and purposes) He will give you all you need to do His work.

v34 You have enough things to deal with today without looking for things in the future to deal with and so ‘worry about them’.

Each day Jesus has things for you to do and by focusing elsewhere you actually waste time and give yourself less time to do what He desires you to do. It is only as you focus in all you do on Jesus and His requirements of you will you do what Jesus desires you to do. As you do His will you walk in the path He has prepared for you from before the creation of the world and you will be where He needs you to be to bless you, protect you and give you all you need to live and serve Him. This path will end in your salvation being confirmed by Jesus when you are judged after you die as well as eternal life in Heaven and a home in heaven.

So the way to not worry and be anxious about the future is to do God’s Will as He reveals it to you and trust Him for what happens as He promises to provide all you need in this life if you do that. This provision includes preparation for the future as well as a future and a hope in heaven with Him.

Planning for the Future

Do you need to know the future? Not if Matt 6:33 is correct and you believe that Jesus is in complete control of your life because you are a Citizen of his Kingdom seeking the advancement of His Kingdom and being in a correct relationship with Him.

Matt 6:33 implies we do not need to plan or save for the future. God may still tell you to plan certain things or save for a thing but saving for the sake of security or your plans because you cannot see what God is going to do implies He will not meet your needs and that He lied in Mat 6:33.

He may also send a prophet to advise you about a future event so you are ready for it but usually you do not seek to know the future as it is not necessary to know this.

There are things you may need to plan for the future (usually budgeted for) and these are a result of the laws of the land. Income tax, legal requirements and recurring expenses and similar may need to be planned for to prepare for them properly. That is not the business of The Kingdom but of being a good citizen of the land and doing what is required by the legislative authorities (rendering to Caesar what is Caesar’s).

What then should you concentrate on each day? You should concentrate on hearing The Holy Spirit so you can be led by Him and know God’s Will for you in all you do.

Should we purchase luxuries? The Bible says to be moderate in all we do. Anything not purchased for the purpose of The Kingdom of God will lead you astray and take time and money from what should have been applied to the purposes of The Kingdom.

Remember, that life must be balanced and that godly relaxation also serves the purposes of the Kingdom and Jesus will tell you when to relax and what you need for it so you have a break to prepare yourself for the next the stage of service to him.

Satan would have you waste resources; money, time, possessions, gifts that God has given you to use for The Kingdom. He will have you overdo things or commit yourself excessively to things so you will be too busy to do the things of God and may even turn your activities into an idol.

If what you does not advance The Kingdom of God in some way or draw you closer to God, do not do it or plan to do it. So the need is to be led by The Spirit of God each moment of the day so you know whether something is of Him or not and whether it will draw you away from God or bring you close to Him.

God’s Peace

What is God’s Peace?

God’s peace is that state which occurs when a person completely trusts God’s Love, Control, Purposes or Plan in all the circumstances that happen to them. It is evidenced by a calm mind that has no fear, worry or anxiety whatever is happening. This attitude of mind occurs as Satan cannot find any reason for them to doubt God’s Love, Control, Purposes or Plan for their life as they trust God completely. They do not care what He allows happen to them as they believe Rom. 8:28 (all works for their good as God is in control of the situation) and Heb 11:6 (He is a rewarder).

They have on their heart the same things as Jesus- the manifestation of The Kingdom of God in the lives of people (theirs or others) and do not care what it costs as they know they have better in the next life than what the world offers them in this life. Satan cannot bind or snare them with the things of his world as these are not important to them as the things God gives them to use for His Kingdom or has for them in their home in heaven.

They are content with what God gives them as anything they obtain apart from that may lead them astray and stop them doing His work. They love God and gladly put aside their pleasures and luxuries for His things.

Their life is thus a continual worship to Jesus as His Will (His requirements, purposes and guidelines) are their focus in all they do. They will continually sww His Face in Heaven and be in His safety and presence on earth in all they do.

Husband and wives that walk in unity of Spirit like this, doing all in His Name are especially blest as He is always in their midst (as they are two or three gathered in His Name). So any marriage lived this way will demonstrate the character of Jesus and His Kingdom and will walk in continual blessings.

God’s Will+

Where the Will of God is involved one does not express and opinion except to declare:

His Love is behind all He does so His Love is behind what has happened, is happening and will happen.

What happens is His Good and Perfect Will and is best for all concerned.

His plans are far beyond anything we can comprehend or understand so we will never understand at times why something has happened, is happening or may happen in the future.

To criticise what God has allowed to happen or will appear to allow to happen is to say He has made a mistake and the He is imperfect in some way.

No Peace for The Wicked

Is 48: 22 There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.

As the days become more darker and evil continues to run its course until it is fulfilled and the Antichrist is exposed the wicked will have less and less peace. They will search for peace and outside of Jesus will not find it. (In the kingdom of Satan there is no peace or love. Only fear).

This is the time that the peace of a Christian in the midst of all the turmoil and trouble will speak the loudest and demonstrate that they are of a different Kingdom to the one the wicked belong too.

Learn to have peace in your trials and to be content with whatever God allows to happen to you and then you will be ready to answer the wicked when He asks why you have peace and you will have the right to point Him to Jesus as you will be living what you are preaching to them.

As you successfully overcome trials you will learn to be a true representative of The Kingdom of God and will be used by The Father to draw people to Jesus and the kingdom

Only those who have found how to have peace and be content when all around them is in turmoil or being destroyed will be able to preach peace with Jesus in the last troubled days of this current spiritual age of the earth.

The Witnesses to our Life

Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

The Bible states that many watch our spiritual progress and service on earth and a list will show you that you are on display to so many that you would behave differently if you realised this.

A basic list is as follows:

God (Father, Son, Holy Ghost)

Satan and Demons

Guarding and Recording Angels

Angels in heaven

People in heaven

People on earth

So remember this when you sin that you are not alone as others have seen it and know what you have done and Satan will try and use it against you in some way.

There are those that watch us that encourage us to keep going (those in Heaven) and there are those that seek to destroy us (Satan and his demons) but ultimately it is up to you and what you will accept from God or Satan that determines your eternal fate and your eternal place in The Kingdom of Heaven.
