The Glory of God and Worship

Neville Salvetti

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy pow'r throughout the universe displayed:

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee;
How great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
How great thou art, how great thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze:

And when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin:

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art!

Part A The Glory of God

In the beginning was nothing

Only God was.

Out of nothing God made everything including life

This alone, without anything else, declares the greatness of God

And brings Him Glory!

Now try to imagine you are in space

Above, below, before, behind on you right or left is endlessness.

Now go to the furthest point you see and the situation does not change

Endless is all around you.

Yet it is all contained in God

Or it would be its own God

It is impossible for a finite mind

To comprehend the immensity of God

The imagine how much greater we are than an atom in our body.

Then imagine how much greater the universe is than us.

Then imagine how much greater the universe is to that atom in our bodies.

But God is infinitely greater than that!

He contains the whole visible universe and more within Him

Yet He relates to each one of us individually

And deals with each one of us personally.

Who are we that He does this?

Gods Glory is because of His Nature:

Who He is!

He does not need to do anything to bring Him Glory.

He does not need us to do anything to bring Him Glory.

This is why we know the universe what not made for His Glory

But for our benefit!

The trinity

Each member of The Trinity has all The Glory of God.

It is just expressed differently because of the ways they have decided to work in this world.

All are equally God

All have all the full Glory of God.

This book does not claim to be a treatise on Gods Glory but just an overview to help you appreciate it more.

His activities at God.

We understand this through:

What the Bible says

What Jesus did

What God has done through our life

What God has done through the life of others.

These manifestations may or may not be seen on earth in the physical plane as some may only be seen when our spiritual eyes are opened

The expression of His character, the most Perfect Love ever known, brings Him praise, adoration and wonder, which is the essence of recognition of Glory.

It is only as we experience and read about God will we appreciate His Glory and obey Him s God desires us too..

What is Glory

In the Poor mans Concordance, Hawker states:

This word (Glory) in the abstract, properly speaking belongs only to God; for there can be glory in no other.

"He dwells in that Light, or Glory, which no man can approach unto." So that all we can know or conceive of His Glory, must result from such manifestations as He hath been pleased to make of himself in His works.

(In other words we can only see of Gods Glory what He lets us see of it)!

Glory From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glory (from the Latin gloria, "fame, renown") is used to describe the manifestation of God's presence as perceived by humans according to the Christian religion.

In Exodus 33:19, Moses is told that no human being can see the glory of God and survive

Comments on Definitions of Glory

The definitions of Gods Glory all refer to a result of some sort into three categories:

The expression of His Character as God

His appearance as God

His activities at God.

They are all subjective definitions based on how a person experiencing one of these three areas describes what they perceive as a Glory of God.

These manifestations may or may not be seen on earth in the physical plane as some may only be seen when our spiritual eyes are opened

The expression of His character, the most Perfect Love ever known, brings Him praise, adoration and wonder, which is the essence of recognition of Glory.

His appearance is mentioned in the Bible and in the appearances to people in visions as recorded on the Internet or  written narratives of these visions.  Once again the descriptions of God fits in with what defines a Glorious appearance.

What is Glory and how do we relate to Gods Glory?

When God does something, it brings him Glory.  Praise and adoration result after the act that causes God to receive Glory in our eyes.

Glory is the result of the demonstration that results in an act that is unusual and amazing.  Glory is the result of a reaction to an act that is so wonderful we break into praise, adoration and worship.  In a sense, Glory is in the perception of the Observer.  We may see something God does as being glorious, but Satan would see it as a threat and perceive the opposite way to what we perceive it to be.

Glory is perceived in the eye of the beholder and will be appreciated in different degrees, according to the perception of its beholder.  This means that there can be no definite scale of Glory in the eyes of man as it varies according to the perception of the beholder.

Your perception of God's glory depends on your ability to see or on how much of it God allows you to see of it.

Not all will see the glory of God in the same way or to the same degree as their perception of it will be different.

So if no one is there to see the act that results in Glory, is there any Glory?

Does a person need to be there for Glory to be perceived to an act that God does?

In other words, does Glory occur if no one is there to see it.

To say there is no Glory is to make man important in declaring Gods Glory.

God does not change.  All He does results in automatically bringbringing Him Glory because He is God and all He does are acts of God.  The fact that no one is there to see the act does not change its nature of being an act that brings him Glory.  The fact is that all He does expresses and brings Him Glory is a natural part of His Character because of whom He is.

Our degree of perception of the Glory associated with an act cannot affect appreciation or its magnitude.  But it does limit our appreciation of the act that brings God Glory.

Whenever God acts it is to the maximum that can be done in that act and brings Him maximum Glory.  This maximum Glory occurs whether or not anyone is there to see it.  It is only our perception and appreciation of Whom God is that hinders the full expression of Gods Glory being shown.

As you grow closer and more intimate with God He is able to reveal to you more of His Glory but we will never see the fullness of His Glory.  It is impossible for us to comprehend all He does as well as see the fullness of His Glory associated with any act He does.

All we can do is to be thankful for what He does for us and be appreciative and thankful for what He reveals to us of His Glory.

The degree of Glory we perceive will be determined by how far above us is the ability to perform that act

All God's acts are so far above our ability to perform them that all will have great glory attached to them in our perception of them.  If you do not see His Glory as you should, you need to ask why you do not see it that way.  Your perception of them may be inadequate or you do not understand or appreciate what God has done.  Even then you will find it difficult to describe what you have seen as it is above what words can describe, except poorly.

Those who are redeemed and pursue their relationship with God will see His Glory as a positive thing in a more increasing way.  Those who are not pursuing this relationship with each member of The Trinity, will not see it or if they do will fear it is as Satan hinders their not seeing it.  This is because God's glory always works against Satan and judges him and his works.

Satan tries to obtain glory through what he does.  If Christians do not try and stop him, he succeeds after a fashion, but not like God does.  Whenever he succeeds against God in any way it gives him a type of glory.

Gods said that His Glory He will not give to another or his praise to Graven images (Idols), which is why Satan tries to displace God and take His Glory from him.

We are not to take Glory from God.  We are to reflect it, so that people see it is God who has done the act and we are only His instruments used to do the act that brings Him the Glory.  He also says we are not to divert His Glory to anything (through worshipping or reverencing it) we make (graven images: statues, Icons, buildings, literature etc., anything man makes to which we give glory through worshipping it or ascribing it to it things only God can do).

God gives us life

Organises the events that enable us to do things

Guides us in doing them

Empowers us to do them

Maintains all we do them in

So really all you are is a vessel for Him to work through and all you can say is I obeyed God in the matter.

Only as you desire to bring glory to the Lord Jesus and show, His quality of Love in all you do will use serve Him properly.  This is because you are fulfilling the requirements of Ministry:

You are not trying to take Glory from God.

You are Ministry to others on His behalf with the Love He has towards them.

With these two correct attitudes, you will begin to Minister correctly each time you minister so that success, as God measures it and not the world measures it, will be assured.  You will be a sevant who truly has on your heart what your master desires you to have, either as ministry to others or ministry to what he gives you to care for Him (stewardship).  You will then be a profitable servant who will enter into all the rewards the Lord has for you and you life will be a continual act of worship through your obedience to Him and will also bring Him Glory.

The Greatness of Gods Activities

Things He has done

These bring Glory to Him alone.  Like His Character and appearance, these are things far above mans ability to do let alone create.

In the beginning all was at peace and in unity with God.  God was alone by Himself in His Kingdom.

He created Angels that truly reflect the Glory of God in their nature, appearance and activity.  They look like God, (as He has shown Himself to us) have a character like God and are able to do far more than we are able too. They truly reflect God and live in heaven, a truly Godly place.

God then created every thing else and gave order to the universe.

Earth was created for man to live in for eternity.  But it was defiled so now man goes to the habitations prepared for angels when he dies (either Heaven or Hell).

Hell was created for Satan and his demons, Satan caused creation to be defiled and so could no longer live in the undefiled Heaven.  It was holy and he and his demons were defiled.  God created hell in the defiled creation as a prison for them.

He then created life, Every attempt to clone a human has failed as they cannot give them life.  Demons live in these creations of man and pretend  that these creations of man have been given life.

God became a man.  How can God, infinite and eternal, fit into a man?  How can The Holy Spirits presence, the presence of God, be in a person?  His coming to earth as a baby was a Glorious act of Love!

His Love is so far greater than anything we can do or imagine so that its expression brings Him Glory!

God died on a cross and redeemed mankind. The eternal, living God died on a cross!  This is another act of Glory resulting from His Love.

Things He is doing that show His Glory.

He maintains all things so that they exist.  Nothing can exist outside of God or it would be a God!  The universe fits into Him.

He exists infinitely in three dimensions without end - something we cannot comprehend.  There is no such thing as time in His existence.

He is knows everything and is able to control everything so that His Will is done for each one of us.  If he could not do this He would not be God!

He is personally able to relate to those who desire a relationship with Him.  In fact He desires a relationship with each one of us.

He deals with us out of Love for our best

He is able to deal with each person individually and meet their needs.

How can the God that fills everything relate to something (mankind) that is microscopic in comparison to Him.

Things to come which will show His Glory.

The defeat of Satan and his Antichrist before the Millennial reign of Jesus.  Satans world system is destroyed and replaced by a thousand year reign of Jesus in which He shows how Satan should have reigned and by this judge him.  The way He rules judges the rule of Satan and shows He is righteous in throwing Satan and all that he ruled into the Lake of Fire for the way Satan ruled the earth.

God replacing the defiled creation so it can once again be part of the Kingdom of God.

The new heaven and earth and the city of God coming down to it (which has been seen by the Hubble space telescope coming towards earth but is a long way off yet).

The magnificence and Glory of the Great White throne judgement, where all receive their rewards or final judgement sentence after hell and all that is in it is thrown into the Lake of Fire

And all is at peace and in unity again with God!

The Kingdom Expressed

The only way the world sees the Glory of God is when it is expressed as miracles, healings or its Authority over Satan and his works is shown.  This is the proof of Gods existence and that He has a real Kingdom.

Just as fulfilled prophecy is the proof of The Bible so this activity of God is the proof He exists.

To the world, any church not exhibiting the Kingdom of God might as well be a Masonic loge or other social group that does good things.  To these people observing the church God is just another concept and until they see His presence in the world through the expression of His Kingdom it will only ever remain a concept.

The passage removed by Satan that allows us to do this is Mark 16:9-21.  This was originally in Code Vaticanus and Sinaiticus until the same person removed it from them before 1865.

If you believe modern bibles are the best translation then  you have no authority to cast out demons, defeat Satan or heal the sick as they state this passage was a addition by man when it fact its removal was a thing done by a man.

The reality of Jesus and His Kingdom only exists on earth when it is expressed by action!  Any church not doing this cannot express The kingdom of God!

Can man glory in things he has done?

In short, No!

Keeps you alive

Prepares you to do the thing

Prepares the thing for you to do

Helps/guides you to do it.

If God did not do these things He would not be God in control of all things or a God of Love.

You are just a faithful servant of what He has given you to do which is why the Lord said:

Mat_24:46  Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

Can you take Glory for blessing others?

You give out of the excess God gives you to give to someone He tells you to give too or you are stealing from your family or some one else.

Reflected Glory

The glory God gives to a person is different to The Glory He has by virtue of whom He is.  The glory we get is really a recognition  by others of what we have done.  Gods Glory is recognition of whom He is regardless of what He does which also brings Him Glory.

Whatever we do for The Kingdom will bring Glory to God in some way if it is done according to His Will!

If it is done in obedience to Him and in accordance with His Guidelines it brings Him Glory.

If we Love God we will delight to do things to please Him and which bring Him Glory

Our reflected glory occurs as one ministers to Him in accordance with His Will.

As we demonstrate The Kingdom of God we visibly bring Him Glory and by being used by Him we reflect His Glory.  It is like a mirror. You see in the mirror the reflection of the real thing.  As Gods' Glory is shown through our actions it points to God and what He has done to make this event occur.

We may receive recognition and a type of glory. But really we should be pointing to God who really has done all to allow us to bring the event into existence and give Him all the Glory for the event.

We have no right to take praise or Glory.  All we have done is allowed God to use us and obey Him to do what He has asked of us to.

Luk_17:10  So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

How do you reflect Gods Glory?

Through your correct participation in an act that gives Him Glory.

By presenting His Kingdom to the world

By demonstrating His Character (fruit of The Spirit) and using the gifts He has given us.

We also demonstrate His Greatness as we demonstrate His Glory.

How do you place yourself in a position to receive Gods reflected Glory?

We do this through proper obedience by being in a correct relationship with Him by being in the centre of His Will.

How do we demonstrate the Kingdom of God
and obtain reflected Glory?

We demonstrate His Kingdom of which The Great Commission is the most visible example.

In summary, Jesus said to His apostles just before He ascended into heaven:

Mat 28: 18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

Mark 16:16-19 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Luke 24: 46-47 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

As you can see each of the writers gives a different twist to the Commission, which if summarized would look like this:

All power (authority) is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in My name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

And these signs shall follow them that believe;

In my name shall they cast out devils;
they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents;
and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;
they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover and,

lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

So if you believe in Jesus and His Great Commission you will perform the signs He said you would unless you believe He lied about it or, like many modern theologians who believe he was not God but was made one for His service so that He does not have the authority to delegate the above to you.

In performing this Great Commission (God-given command) we:

Show His quality of Love

Do His work on earth

Bring Him Glory

Endure trials and Martyrdom for Him

Tell others of what He has done for them

Obey Him in all He asks you to do because you love Him

Prepare ourselves to live in heaven.

Gods Glory is seen in the eye of its beholder according to the way and degree God allows them to see it.

The closer you become to God.  The more of His Glory He can show you.  The more of His Glory you want to show. So if you want to see more of Gods Glory, aim to increase the closeness and intimacy of the relationship you have with Him.

Perhaps Job Chapters 38 and 39 declare Gods Glory best!

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?

Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

anst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?

Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.

Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?

Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.

He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.

Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?

Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,

And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;

Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.

He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.

He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.

He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?

oth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?

She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.

From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.

Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.

Part B Worship

Thou shalt worship no other God. Exo 34.

Worship is an attitude that results from appreciation and awe of an act done by a person or spirit.  However God is behind all that happens so to worship anything or anyone apart from God is wrong as they are only vehicles for Him to use.

This is why no one can Glory in what they do and obtain worship for it because God:

Keeps you alive

Prepares you to do the thing

Prepares the thing for you to do

Helps/guides you to do it.

This is why any worship not directed towards God is idolatry.

Why a book on worship and on God’s Glory

We worship because we see God do something Glorious so it is helpful to know a little about worship so that we do it correctly.  So what follows is not a treatise on worship but various facts about it that may help you appreciate how to worship God correctly.

Basically worship is obeying another because they are worth following.  One must not confuse adoration and worship.  You can adore someone without actually have to obey them but worship results in obedience of some kind.  In  sense adoration is necessary for worship to occur as you will not worship someone you do not love and hold in high esteem.  Without these two attitudes it is not worship but forced obedience even if voluntarily entered into by a person.

Websters Definition

There are numerous definitions but the one of interest for us are the one below:

WORSHIP, n. [See Worth.]

4. Chiefly and eminently, the act of paying divine honors to the Supreme Being; or the reverence and homage paid to him in religious exercises, consisting in adoration, confession, prayer, thanksgiving and the like.

The worship of God is an eminent part of religion.

Prayer is a chief part of religious worship.

To adore; to pay divine honors to; to reverence with supreme respect and veneration.

1. To perform acts of adoration.

2. To perform religious service.

Our fathers worshiped in this mountain. John 4.

Adoration is the attitude we have to approach God and treat Him as worthy of worship.  Love is not necessary.  Demons obey God (which is a form of worship) but do not love Him. The true Christian worship has Love for God as a basic component that results from reverence and adoration and appreciation of Gods Love for them.

We can adore someone without worshipping them such as a person we love.

Websters Definition

1. The act of paying honors to a divine being; the worship paid to God; the act of addressing as a God.

Adoration consists in external homage, accompanied with the highest reverence. It is used for the act of praying, or preferring requests or thanksgiving, to the Supreme Being.

2. Homage paid to one in high esteem; profound reverence.

Reverence is an act of respect to someone that allows you to take their advice.  A Christian worships God out of Love and reverence for Him.  We can reverence someone without actually worshipping them. We show reverence to people in higher authority and a wife is told to show reverence to her husband but we do not worship them even though we may adore them.

The following is from an Appendix of the Companion Bible by Bullinger

The following six Greek words are rendered "worship" in the A.V.

1. proskuneo  = to prostrate one's self (in reverence), do homage.  Used, therefore, of the  act  of  worship.

2. sebomai  = to revere, to feel awe.  Used, therefore, of the  inward feelings  (as No. 1 is of the outward  act).

 3. sebazomai  = to be shy, or timid at  doing anything .  Occurs only in Rom_1:25.

 4. lateuo  = to serve in official service (for hire, or reward).  Used of serving God in the externals of His worship.

5.  eusebeo  = to be pious or devout towards any one; to act with reverence, respect, and honour.

6. therapeuo  = to wait upon, minister to (as a doctor does); hence = to heal; to render voluntary service and attendance.  Thus differing from No. 4.

These Greek words summarise worship and attitudes to superiors.

No 1 is true worship

No 2 Is what we call adoration

No 3 is really not worship but an attitude as a result of fear not worship

No 4 Is not worship but the support of those worshipping

No 5 Is an attitude of reverence

No 6 is not worship but an act of duty that is similar to worship.

I am only looking at adoration and worship (words 1 and 2)

We can reverence a person without actually worshipping them because worship involves submission to another while reverence and adoration do not.  Worship is the act of voluntarily submitting to the will of another.  When it is done out of necessity or compulsion it is not worship but forced capitulation.

True worship has adoration and reverence as attitudes in it but submits out of Love for the person and the desire to serve them.

Worship of man is usually a title and because of their position in society but is not an actual worship of whom they are or it becomes idolatry.

Three important areas of attitudes for a Christian are as follows:

Towards God (worship)

Towards God-given possessions and others (stewardship)

Towards ones self (correct evaluation of your relationship with God)

These contrast with those of the world:

The lust of the flesh,

The lust of the eyes,

The pride of life

The first set is based on Love (outward looking - serving others) the second on lust (inward looking - serving self).  The Bible states that you will be known by your fruit (what you do) and your attitudes (what you say) and that these will be what condemns you when you are face to face with God and are judged on what you have done with your life and Wwhat God gave you to be steward of (Mat 12:36).

It can be seen how important worship is if it is one of the three important areas of the Christian life.

Voluntary Obedience to God is an act of worship and Love which is why He values it so much!  It says to God I love you and want to serve you in any way I can’.  Adoration just says to God ‘I Love you’.  Reverence just says to God ‘I respect and honour you’.  Worship combines these two attitude with Love that results in voluntary obedience.

Salvation is a relationship of Love and we obey God to maintain our salvation, not out of fear of Going to hell but because we Love Him and think He is worthy to be obeyed, adored and reverenced for what He has done for us!

How do you show you worship someone?

You do what they say to do and follow their example of life

You place their will and purposes before yours

You tell others of them, their requirements and acts

You learn all you can about doing these things

So if you worship Jesus you will doing all these things.

Faith and trust are an act of worship

By having faith in a person we are saying that the person is worthy of trusting and putting our faith in them.

We will not worship anyone properly we do not trust or have faith in.  The degree of these two attitudes you have will determine how much you will trust God in what He does to and for you.

These attitudes are developed as you experience more and more of God’s dealing with you but they must start with faith in Him so that He can build on this attitude in you and develop faith and trust in Him more.

Where to worship?

Worship is a way of life so that we really worship where we are at the time when we have a proper attitude towards God.

God says:

Isa 66:1  The LORD said: Heaven is my throne; the earth is my footstool. What kind of house could you build for me? In what place will I rest?

No place can contain God so we cannot say He is living in a building.  Because He is everywhere it means we can worship Him where we are at that moment, providing we are not doing anything ungodly.

1Co 6:19  What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

We also have the Holy Spirit is in us so that we are always in the presence of God to be able to worship Him wherever we are.

Worshipful Living

We rarely are given a visit by God as we worship Him so how do we worship?

He is seen in our understanding according to our knowledge of who He is and the concept we have formed as a result of this in our heart.  So To worship God we do not actually see Him but by faith we declare in our heart Who He is and that He is worthy to be worshipped and obeyed.  Our Love and appreciation of Him for what He has done for us drives us to worship Him.

The more we understand and know whom God is and the more we conform ourselves to His Love, Character and purposes, the closer we can get to Him in worship.  The more we are able to hear The Holy Spirit, the more intimate we are able to interact with God.

Intimacy and worship are different.  Intimacy is to do with the way we relate to Him.  Worship with the way we appreciate Him.

So as we love and obey Him we are always showing devotion to Jesus and by this living a life of worship, even in the small things we do in accordance with His will like housekeeping done out of gratitude to The Father that you have a house being done properly and in order, employment done in order and in gratitude that you are employed and that you are there because he wants you there to serve in His Love etc..

Remember: we are called to serve Him and then He tells us what He wants us to do, How to do it, where to do  it and when to do it, so all is devotion and worship if we live as we should

True worship

When we are in the presence of God (in prayer, ministering in Jesus Name) there should be awe and reverence as well as a sense of the Holiness of God and a resultant humility as well as love for Him that He accepts us into His presence. Before a Holy God, self and pride has no place as we realise how we have no authority or power except He give it to us and that it is Grace which allows to be there worshipping Him.

This is the correct attitude we need for ministry and is missing from most ministries as they do not respect God as they should or have a wrong sense of Holiness in who He is. This is because God is not taught as personal or relational today in most places that call themselves Christian. We have lost our sense of awe and gratitude in who God is and what He has done for us.

The other error is to treat God too familiarly so that he loses the specialness of His Character and our relationship with him.

This worship attitude towards the presence of God needs to be there or else we will not pray as we should. When we have this perspective we will see ourselves as we really are before Him as well as who we are in our roles as a citizen of The Kingdom of God.

With these attitudes our life becomes continual worship as we obey Him because He is worthy to be obeyed and not because we feel like it at the time. A further by product of these is the Glory God obtains by our life.

Glorifying God is not something we set out to do. It is as natural as worship is and results from the same attitude of doing all for God out of Love for Him. It is also a consequence of our lifestyle.  Glory to God results from our actions that are based on what God requires of us and it is not something we intentionally set out to do.

Worship is always there by our continual obedience of love but Glory is only there when the action brings credit to God by showing His character or authority reflected in and through our life.

Wherever you are you can be before the Throne of God, in the Throne room of God, worshipping, adoring, pleading your cause as physical walls do not exist to block your access. The Kingdom of heaven is in you and also around you as you demonstrate it to those around you.

Remember we are exposed to the spiritual realm and the physical realm so while worship is there for all to see Glorifying God may only be seen in the spiritual realm at times. Thus we will glorify Him much more before those in the spiritual realm than in the physical realm. This is also how we judge angels (demons). We who have not seen Jesus obey Him out of Love and by this judge those angels who have seen him and do not obey Him out of love but of fear because they have too.

While we may not be ministering for God in the accepted sense of the term, the way we endure our trials brings Him worship and Glory in its purest form as only He alone may see it and no one else. Hence the value of suffering and trials dealt with by us correctly in the way He desires for them to be dealt with. Remember! He has allowed these trials and suffering for our eternal best and honours suffering and trials dealt with correctly by drawing the person closer to Himself as the person focus is only on Jesus as this ministry to God has no direction elsewhere like normal ministry to Jesus has.

Prayer, worship and glorifying God are a natural expression of our relational walk with God and in its proper perspective to God results in an attitude of Holiness in us because of Whom God is and our Love for Him and appreciation of Him rejecting all that would separate us.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Matt 18:20)

Leading worship

People leading worship (usually a type of song service) need to present to the people worshipping, Jesus: His beauty, perfection, Holiness and His desirability.  They need to present Jesus to the worshippers in a way they can relate to Him personally and see who He is, so that they will desire Him because of the understanding they have been given of Him and how desirable He is to commune with personally.

The moment they see the worship leader the worship leader has failed in their activity by taking the focus away from Jesus.

I was given verse 31 to encourage me and was told by The Holy Spirit to look at it closely

Isa 40:27-31  Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?  Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.  He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.  Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

The last part is quoted often as a verse to claim for physical recuperation and restoration as a result of trials.

The context is suffering because it appears the persons sufferings are hidden from God. The person is reminded God knows everything including their current problems.  He gives power to the faint and strength to those that have no might.  In other words, those that are faint he enables to go on and those that have not strength he strengthens to endure.

The requirement is to wait on Him.  Doing this and suffering the way God desires you to is an act of worship.

The waiting is patient waiting for God to act.  So those waiting for God to act will be strengthened as they do not waste energy trying to do it themselves.  Thus the warning that the rashness of youth will not achieve the desired result but those who are mature and wait for God will see the desired result.

If you worship God you will wait for Him to work and suffer in the way God desires you to suffer.

It is not just those who spend time worshipping Him but those who patiently wait for Him to work who in doing so also worship Him.

This waiting is actually a form of worship as you show by your waiting that Jesus is worthy to be obeyed (worshipped) and trusted.

If they are patient the promise is that they will overcome the obstacles (mount up with wings), run and not be weary from pursuing something they cannot achieve and they shall continue walking in the path God has prepared for them and not faint because they are not out of Gods will and thus working against His purposes for them.

True worship is personal

True worship can never can be done in a crowd but only on a one to one basis as His Heart and our heart touch and unite through the presence of The Holy Spirit - communing as one!

The crowd may individually worship on a personal basis to God but as a whole it appears they all are worshipping as a crowd and not individually.

The closest worship is not found in public.  It is found in the secret place of the Most High, often when in deepest sorrow and pain, when Jesus alone can comfort.  It can also be found in the sorrow of deep repentance when His Love and Mercy reach out to forgive and comfort us

Worship is a way of life and not just a temporary thing.   It is a personal act only you can carry out.  The worship we declare is the result of our life worshipping God in all we do and just has expression, at times, in a public crowd or group.

It is not something we learn as an activity but an expression of Love for God and for His Works so we need a proper appreciation of God and what He has done, is doing.

On earth we learn to worship in preparation for heaven and the worship we will do up there so it pays to learn properly how to worship so you are not found wanting when you get to heaven and worship.

To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life our redemption to win,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
  Let the earth hear His voice;
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
  Let the people rejoice;
Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory; great things He hath done

Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives

Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see
